The EU-Rail JU collects your personal information only to the extent necessary to fulfil a precise purpose related to our tasks as an institution (which are laid down in Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Union institutions and bodies, offices and agencies and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 and Decision No 1247/2002/EC (hereinafter ”the EUDPR”).
We use features of the website to collect personal data in the context of the EU-Rail JU activities. a. How do we use cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your personal computer or on your mobile device when you visit a website.

We use cookies on our website for its technical functioning and, if you consent to it, to collect your browsing experience on our website for anonymised statistics, whose purpose is to improve our communication and the service we offer. b. EU-Rail JU and its cookies

EU-Rail JU uses Matomo, an open-source analytics platform hosted on the cloud infrastructure by Matomo.

Matomo analytics cookies are used to collect information about how visitors use our site. EU-Rail JU uses the information to compile reports and to help us improve the site. Cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the site, where visitors to the site come from and the pages they visit.

Cookies (from Matomo) enable the EU-Rail JU to track the following information about visitors. We use this information to prepare aggregated, anonymous statistics reports of visitors’ activity:

  • IP address (masked i.e. Matomo automatically anonymizes visitor’s IP addresses)
  • Location: country, region, city, approximate latitude and longitude (Geolocation)
  • Date and time of the request (visit to the site)
  • Title of the page being viewed (Page Title)
  • URL of the page being viewed (Page URL)
  • URL of the page that was viewed prior to the current page (Referrer URL)
  • Screen resolution of user’s device
  • Time in local visitor’s time-zone
  • Files that were clicked and downloaded (Download)
  • Links to an outside domain that were clicked (Outlink)
  • Pages generation time (the time it takes for webpages to be generated by the webserver and then downloaded by the visitor: Page speed)
  • Main language of the browser being used (Accept-Language header)
  • Browser version, browser plugins (PDF, Flash, Java, …) operating system version, device identifier (User-Agent header)
  • Language of the visited page
  • Campaigns
  • Site Search
  • Events

To improve the accuracy of the produced reports, information is also stored in a first-party cookie from our website and then collected by Matomo:

  • Random unique Visitor ID
  • Time of the first visit for the specific visitor
  • Time of the previous visit for the specific visitor
  • Number of visits for the specific visitor

Privacy
Analytics data will not be shared with any other organisation for marketing, market research or commercial purposes. EU-Rail JU retains control of the data collected by storing the data in servers hosted on our Matomo dedicated server.
Matomo automatically anonymizes visitor’s IP address to protect user’s privacy.

Consent
By default, the browsing experience of website visitors is NOT tracked by Matomo tool. You may choose to consent to contributing your browsing experience on our website for us to produce anonymised statistics.

The first time you will visit our web site, a banner will appear on every page of the web site, informing you of the use of cookies and giving you the possibility to <accept> or <refuse> to be tracked for our anonymised and aggregated statistics.  A link is also provided to provide you with further information.

 

 

Once you accept you can always change your mind and revoke consent or renew your choice via a <Settings> tab available at the bottom left of every page. The consent has a maximum lifetime of 6 months after which the banner will appear again.

The EU-Rail JU is active on several social media platforms. Our presence in social media communities strengthens our online presence and visibility.

In order to protect your privacy, our social media buttons to connect to those services do not set cookies when our website pages are loaded on your device, nor you are immediately redirected to social media or other websites. YouTube: All videos available on EU-Rail JU website are embedded from EU-Rail JU official YouTube channel.  YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode is enabled: this means that YouTube will not set cookies for a user who views a web page that contains a privacy-enhanced YouTube embed video player, but does not click on the video to begin playback. Moreover, the application of the privacy-enhanced mode implies that YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos. More info available on YouTube’s embedding videos information page. YouTube has its own privacy policies over which we have no control.

Twitter: by clicking on the Twitter icon on our website will re-direct you to the Twitter site, which has its own cookie and privacy policies over which we have no control.

LinkedIn: Similarly, by clicking on the LinkedIn button on our website, you will be re-directed to the LinkedIn site, which has its own cookie and privacy policies over which we have no control over.

Facebook: Clicking on the Facebook icon on our website will re-direct you to the Facebook site, which has its own cookie and privacy policies over which we have no control.

Restricted access to information
All analytics data communication is encrypted via HTTPS protocol and stored on a server hosted by the same hosting organisation as the EU-Rail website.

The analytical reports generated by Matomo can only be accessed by EU-Rail JU staff or by duly EU-Rail JU authorised external sub-contractors, who may be required to analyse, develop and/or regularly maintain certain sites.
